Although there's no rule, most Bulgarians nod for "no" and shake their heads for "yes", which really confuses foreigners. If you think that'll make you dizzy, remember that the corresponding monosyllables are easy to recall: NE means "no" and DA means "yes".

At many public places you'll be charged a small fee ($0.15-$0.35) to use the rest- room. The other unusual thing is the porcelain 'squat spot' that you'll see instead of a toilet bowl.
